This session will consider the implications of inclusion and diversity in the classroom: What do specific learning differences look like in the classroom? Which strategies will support people with learning differences, and how can they support learning for all? What are the benefits and rewards of an inclusive classroom? We will discuss areas including the social model of disability, barriers to learning, differentiation and universal design through the lens of adult learning.

Joanna has been teaching English since 2003 and has taught from beginners to advanced levels using a range of coursebooks to adults aged 16+. Joanna also has 1 year’s experience in the state education sector teaching, assisting and supporting asylum seekers, refugees and young adults with special educational needs. Joanna has experience teaching both multi-lingual and mono-lingual (Italian, Spanish) classes and has a year’s experience teaching younger learners aged 7+ in Italy. Joanna started training in 2009 and has taught a variety of courses including bespoke courses developed for specific groups of qualified teachers and pre-service courses. Joanna is a Celta and Delta trainer.
Marie has been teaching English since 2000 and has taught from Beginner to Proficiency level General English classes. She has also taught Business English, one-to-one and both Cambridge Main Suite and IELTS exam courses. In addition, she taught classes which focus predominantly on conversation and pronunciation and on developing study skills in English. Marie taught young learners for 2 years in Spain from the age of 6 upwards, and has taught Spanish, Peruvian, Korean and Chinese monolingual classes. Marie started training in 2005 and has taught a variety of courses including bespoke courses developed for specific groups of qualified teachers and pre-service courses. She has delivered training to small groups on specialist subjects, such as CUL and has worked with groups of up to 30 teachers on intensive training programmes abroad.
